White Horse Buddhist Temple
白马寺 The White Horse Buddhist Temple was built in 68AD and its name was inspired by a white horse brought to China by two Indian Buddhist Monks, part of a delegation to educate the Eastern Han about the religion of Buddhism. It was here that precious Buddhists scriptures were first translated into Chinese, and the foundations for Buddhism in China were laid out. This temple’s history has had a profound effect not only religion, but also philosophy, ethics and culture. The temple also boasts stunning ancient architecture and a thriving Buddhist community, making it one of the most authentic religious sites in all of China.
