Travel Insurance

Health insurance and prayer While praying may improve your odds, it is still advisable to have international travel insurance for your trip. There are many offerings on the web or the company which sells your international air ticket may have travel insurance. The main points to consider:

Medical Coverage

China's major cities have international clinics staffed by western doctors catering to foreign travelers and expats. The service and quality are high, as is the price. For any serious medical emergency you will end up in a Chinese hospital as the expat clinics have their limits. Some Chinese hospitals have good facilities and staff who speak some English. For stomach bugs, flus and non-critical ailments the international clinics are good and when a guest has a problem we can accompany you to a clinic or hospital. However you need to pay for care with a credit card or cash and later get reimbursed by your insurance provider.

Cancellation Insurance

If you are planning a costly tour itinerary with cancellation fees, some travel insurance policies will cover this. Check with your provider for limitations.

The most common travel insurance benefits are:
  • Loss, theft or damage to personal possessions and money (including travel documents)
  • Medical expenses
  • Emergency evacuation/repatriation
  • Trip cancellation/interruption
  • Delayed departure
  • Delayed baggage (and emergency replacement of essential items)
  • Accidental death, injury or disablement benefit
  • Overseas funeral expenses
  • Curtailment
  • Legal assistance
  • Personal liability and rental car damage excess
Generally the travel agent who arranges your international air ticket or a local company in your own country can sell you a good travel insurance policy to suit your needs.
