West Street in Yangshuo VillageWest Street in Yangshuo Village in Yangshuo Price: Duration: Dates: Tour code: Overview: Ask for a free quotation 5 Days As you request TCG-1465 This tour is for those who want to see something a little less ordinary. We completely bypass Guilin and all its sights, as the same scenery can be seen in Yangshuo and is much less crowded. Guilin has historic meaning to Chinese tourists which is not so important for westerners, and Yangshuo village is a little more intimate and relaxing.

Accommodation in Yangshuo is outside the village in the countryside, which is quite busy and noisy at night with bars and music, however if you prefer we can change you to an in town option.

After a couple of days of biking, caving, rafting and a hike up Moon Hill we take you to another completely different rural area, the Longsheng Rice Terraces. Here you can see life as it was centuries ago, with agriculture taking place on steep terraced hills. You hike to Tiantouzhai village where you spend the night, then the next day hike about 5 hours through the rice terraces to Ping'an village. If you prefer not to do this hike we can adjust the itinerary so there is little or no hiking. However if you can do it you will see a side of China few others see.

From the outside, the Silver Cave looks like any other normal mossy karst peak in Guilin. Impression Liu Sanjie Night Show   印象刘三姐

Created by famous film director Zhang Yimou (who also did the Olympic opening and closing ceremonies), Impression Liu Sanjie is a sensational night show performed in the largest natural theater in the world. With the sky and rows of mountain peaks along Li River the stage is pure nature.

Impression Liu Sanjie is a large-scaled show with 600 plus actors and actress involved. The show lasts approximately 70 minutes combining the classical Sanjie Liu's folk songs and traditional fishing culture themes reflecting the harmony between human beings and the nature. The scale and quality of the performance are unique, it is well worth spending the time and money for this evening activity.

Yangshuo 阳朔

One of the easier places to escape the cities and see a bit of the countryside. Yangshuo can be accessed directly from the Guilin airport, its about a 90 minute drive. You can bypass Guilin if you want and do river rafting among the mountainous scenery here. Once a small village, Yangshuo has grown up into a town because it is on the receiving end of Li river boat trips from Guilin. Thousands of Chinese tourists pour in daily from about 100 boats. If you want you can stay outside of Yangshuo town, there are a number of beautiful boutique hotels located along the Li and Yulong Rivers or amidst the surrounding rice fields.

Activities in Yangshuo include biking, strolling the rural scenes along the Li river and through rice patties, climbing Moon Hill, caving and shopping / eating in Yangshuo village. Much of Yangshuo village is pedestrianized.

Longsheng Rice Terraces 龙胜梯田

Located outside Guilin, your visit can be done as a day trip, but is best done overnight. There are two distinct villages you can visit, Tiantouzhai and Ping'an. Tiantouzhai is about a 45 minute hike from the Dazhai parking lot and is much less touristy and more scenic than Ping'an, which is more developed and attached to the main road.

To reach Tiantouzhai you can drive to Dazhai and then walk in 45 minutes to the village of Tiantouzhai, which is not connected by road so you enjoy an authentic rural experience. The village is small but with many inns and restaurants. You can do day hikes to various viewpoints, and also spend time enjoying the relaxed village atmosphere.

If you want to do a longer hike you can walk about 5 hours to the village of Ping'an, which is another popular tourist destination in the Longsheng rice...   Read more

Guilin 桂林

Guilin is famous for its beautiful mountain scenery, often seen painted on Chinese scrolls. But Guilin has grown into a city of 1.34 million. There are other places around Guilin, such as the rapidly growing village of Yangshuo that may be a better choice for visitors.

Often travelers will stay in Guilin for one night so they can take the riverboat ride to Yangshuo, which only leaves in the morning. Then they will spend 1 or 2 nights in Yangshuo. We recommend skipping Guilin entirely if possible as you can also see the same scenery from Yangshuo via bamboo river raft rides. But this might not be ideal for some travelers so adding Guilin to your itinerary is still a good option for many people.

Moondance Resort   阳朔月亮之舞酒店
★ ★ ★ ★

Very nice place, quiet, pleasant, away from stress and noise. Friendly English speaking staff, spacious rooms decorated at Chinese style. The Moondance Resort is the best place to get a real break. Many famous places around to visit, such as Dragon Bridge, Moon Hill and of course the Lightshow Liu San Jie. Also many activities available. Whether you like hiking, biking, rock-climbing, kayaking or caving, the choices are plenty. For those who prefer the relaxing option, the masterpiece: the natural swimming pool of the hotel, cool temperature all year long, eco-friendly, detergent and chloride-free.

Ping'an Village, Li-An Lodge   理安山庄
★ ★ ★ ★

Li-An Lodge is an entirely wood structure implementing the Chinese traditional building technique of tongue and groove without a single nail. The lodge was created by Keren Su, a photographer and painter.

This is the only high end accommodation in Ping'an. We rate it as four star as its a sixteen room boutique hotel. Its rooms are well designed and lit. The reception staff are gracious and speak English.

The price difference for this hotel over many other hotels which while not as nice are much less expensive should make one think twice. If its in your budget then enjoy the splurge, if not then maybe look at some other less expensive options.

Breakfast

Most hotels come with breakfast, or if not it can be added at a cost. Four and five star hotels will generally offer a good western and Chinese buffet breakfast. Three star hotels may only have a Chinese breakfast, or a Chinese interpretation of a western breakfast. Anyway a Chinese breakfast is not bad - rice porridge, eggs, Chinese style breads and vegetables.
Drinking Water
Most of our tours offer unlimited bottled water in the vehicle so you can keep hydrated and healthy all day long. Grab a couple bottles to take to your room for the night. Tap water in big cities in China is not going to make you sick, it is chlorinated. Fine for brushing your teeth but best to stick to bottled water as you don't want to upset your system on your big trip.
Children and Special Diets
Our guides are accustomed to handling special diets or the selective eating of children. Let us know in advance if you have food allergies or other special requests and we can plan for you. Children often find they like certain Chinese dishes, such as noodles, fried rice or sweet and sour pork. If a stop at McDonalds or KFC is required your guide can do this on the go.

Lunch on Tour

We consider experiencing good Chinese cuisine to be an important part of the tour experience. When on a tour, lunch is generally Chinese style and normally included in the price. Our guides will help you order according to your taste. Mild, spicy, meat, vegetables, rice and/or noodles. Dishes are served family style and shared by the guests. The driver may eat on his own but the guide will join you if you like.

Food in Beijing is quite good quality and we take our guests to genuine local restaurants, not tourist traps. We consider it distasteful to ask you for small amounts of money during the tour, so we offer unlimited standard drinks including Coke, Sprite, local bottled water and Chinese tea. You also won't leave the table hungry, if you need more to eat just let your guide know.

We don't have fixed restaurants we must use, it depends on where you are at the time you are hungry. When traveling around China we normally have the same arrangements outside Beijing but this may vary depending on your exact itinerary.

Dinner on Tour

Unless there is a special activity planned or you prefer to have all your meals catered, guests often prefer to relax after a day tour and arrange their own dinner. This gives you flexibility in time and cuisine. Having all your meals catered every day can be tiresome. Handling your own dinner allows you to have some control and also strike out on you own. Your guide can give you restaurant suggestions and in big cities you can find lots of options for fine dining, fast food, both western or Chinese. Hotel staff can often make restaurant recommendations within walking distance.

If you get the taste for a burger or pizza after a lot of Chinese food, this is easily found in Beijing, Shanghai and many other cities around China. Many hotel restaurants offer nice food. China also has its share of McDonald's, KFC and Subway sandwich chains if you need a fix.
