Hunan is better known than Hubei for its spicy food, which is often even spicier than Sichuan cuisine. Fresh chilies, including the seeds and membranes are used and Hunanese considers chillies as vegetables no matter how hot they are. The Hunan people argue that Hunan food is hotter than Sichuan.
