The charming Panmen Gate Scenic Area in the southwest corner of the Main Canal is home to the “three landmarks of Pan Gate”. The first is the Ruiguang Pagoda, Suzhou’s oldest Buddhist pagoda built in 247BC. Second is the Wumen bridge, which at 11 meters high is the tallest ancient bridge still standing in Suzhou. Finally, there is the majestic ivy-covered Panman Gate – the only gate in China to separate two bodies of water.
