This tour goes a step further than our classic Golden Triangle tour, adding a visit to Chengdu, another of China’s most vibrant cities. Combined with visits to Beijing, Xi’an, and Shanghai, this tour will show you the very best of what China has to offer.
You’ll start your tour in Beijing, where you’ll get to visit some of China’s most famous attractions, including the Great Wall. The section of the Great Wall we recommend, Mutianyu, has great views, fewer tourists, and the option to take a thrilling toboggan ride on the way back down!
From Beijing you’ll continue on to Xi’an. For most people, the name Xi’an evokes images of the staggering Terracotta Warriors. After your trip, the name will bring back countless memories of other adventures: cycling the city walls, exploring the Muslim quarter, and tasting delicious local delicacies, to name but a few.
You trip then moves on to Chengdu, home to China’s cutest national treasure – pandas! You’ll also have plenty of chances to experience Chengdu’s famous street food (UNESCO has named Chengdu a Creative City of Gastronomy).
Wrap up your trip in Shanghai, the most populated city proper in the world (and therefore one of the most diverse.) Stroll along the futuristic waterfront one day and visit the traditional Chinese Yuyuan Gardens the next; you may feel like you have stepped back in time.
